To help set the stage for Smallville‘s final episodes, TV Guide reports The CW will re-air the show’s pilot on April 8.
Originally broadcast on Oct. 16, 2001, on The CW’s predecessor The WB, the pilot began with a small spacecraft carrying an alien boy crashing in Smallville during a meteor shower that killed young Lana Lang’s parents and left Lex Luthor bald. Jumping forward 12 years, the episode quickly established the rivalry between Clark Kent (Tom Welling) and Lex (Michael Rosenbaum), and introduced viewers to mainstays Lana (Kristin Kreuk), Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack), Pete Ross (Sam Jones III) and Whitney Fordman (Eric Johnson). It’s the last character who was responsible for the most iconic image of that first season, Clark tied to a scarecrow pole with a red “S” painted on his chest (a variation of that scene was used to promote the series’ debut).
The April 8 rebroadcast will be followed by a repeat of Supernatural. Both series will return with new episodes the following Friday. Smallville‘s two-hour season finale — complete with Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor — will air on May 13.
